It has been what? over a year - probably nearly two years - since I have posted on vox or any other blog.
And rather significantly (or not, you decide), today is the last day of 2009. At least in my time zone.
As you can see if you scroll down, my last post to the world was in fact a declaration of a loss of faith in the ideals and the afflictions that come with being lolita. In my time away, if its not too corny, my rite of passage - no...that is too corny - my time away, I learnt something very important.
Lolita, in the end, is a way of life (I've always upheld that view, even against chauvinistic imbeciles who call it cosplay) - but it is not a definition of who you are.
I repeat: Lolita is a way of life, but it does not necessarily define you as a person.
Let's take a random character called Alice (lack of imagination, sorry). Alice is a lolita. But Alice doesn't always like things covered in lace. And in fact, Alice doesn't like deserts at all, or Malice Mizer, or bubblegum pop. Alice likes her sodium, and she likes her grunge rock. These things don't mean that Alice cannot be a lolita. It just means she is so much more than just a lolita.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that while Lolita was created to embrace individuality and to show that you are 'different' and 'unique', it has become more and more like a stereotype - and worse than that, sometimes in order to be a good Lolita, one who follows correct etiquette and rules - you begin to lose that individuality that made you love Lolita in the first place.
I don't know about you, but I for one cannot stand the rule that tells you not to "strike back" if someone is hurtful or rude to you. I love nothing more than to shout at them and a little pounding never hurt anyone.
So after two years, I come back a happier and a more normal person. I don't dress up to go out anymore (not in Lolita anyway), nor do I attend/hold tea parties and all my dresses hang lifelessly in my closet.
I wonder if you guessed, but "Alice" is me. In my time away, I've learned to accept and love things that are not in the least related to Lolita. Sometimes we are just a little too blind to see what else is out there. E.g. for the sake of tea-parties, we might not learn to love coffee etc (I still can't drink coffee, btw). So...I have a few confessions to make.
1. My music has been infiltrated by kpop. And a short while ago, I liked DBSK more than AKFG. (no longer the case. Proud of me? ^^)
2. I've never liked Malice Mizer or Moi dix Mois, and I don't know what I was thinking when I used to look up to Mana. Because actually, he's downright creepy. (Please, please, don't kill me, its only personal opinion. But think about it. You know in your heart I'm right.)
3. I enjoy going down to the local supermarket in ripped jeans and a baseball cap. And I don't really care if I tan or not anymore.
4. I've never liked tea parties much. Why? Insects and grass stains.
5. I very much enjoy cursing. I believe our lives are enriched with the occasional "for f&#$'s sake".
But it doesn't matter. Because I am still "Sakuya" and I am still Lolita. Even if you can't see it. Even if others can't see it, I know its there.
So children, learn that you are you, before you are a lolita.
After all, a lolita doesn't need to shout to be heard.

For the last, I'd say year, Zak and I have uttered the sentence..."I fucking hate banks" more times than I can count...
We miss our small Alaska bank. Bad. We have come to truly hate "big banks".
And after the bailout? The sentence has become a practically everyday utterance....and hating is now too nice of a word to use. It's more like loathe and despise, at this point.
I know I posted something about Bank of America on my blog some time ago and I'm far too lazy and buzzed to bother looking.....but anyway, point being....Zak and I both have had a serious "issue" with big banks for awhile. We have talked endlessly about how could we function without even using a bank, to no avail. We have found no solution. We have discussed moving to a small community bank...I mean we have gone around and around about this....tonight, I see this...
NICE!!!!!
LOVE IT!
And that WILL be one of my New Year's resolutions....get the fuck out of a big bank and into a smaller one.
I will feel SO liberated....so in control....and I can't wait!!!!

About an hour ago I was at a Walmart in Florida with my Mom minding my own business. All of a sudden I heard a toddler say to the adult that he was with, "shut up, N*gger." My mouth dropped, my heart cringed and I was dumbfounded.
